Is Barack Obama Muslim?

The Pew Research Center conducted a survey from July 21 to August 5, 2010. The question asked from the participants of the survey was: “Do you happen to know what Barack Obama’s religion is?


Is he Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist, Hindu, Atheist, Agnostic or something else?” The results were shocking as nearly one-in-five (18% to be precise) Americans believed that their president is Muslim. The percentage of people having such a belief about the religious affiliation of the president was just 11% in March 2009.



An even more shocking result shown by the survey revealed that only a third of the adult American(34% precisely) citizenry believed their head of their country to be a Christian, not to mention the fact that this percentage stood at 48% in 2009. In fact, 43% of those asked went on to say that they did not know what his religion was.

The belief that Barack Obama is Muslim finds more supporters in the political opposition to The President. It came as a great shock to many when the survey found that nearly one-third of the Republicans upheld the belief that Barack Obama is a Muslim. Looking for more shocks?46% of the supporters of the President say that Barack Obama is a Christian whereas those contending this in March 2009 constituted 55% of his supporters.


Whether the bond between Islam and the president may not be that obvious but the mounting public belief regarding his affiliation to Islam can also not be termed totally unfounded.
